Who is an Occupational Hygienist?

An Occupational Hygienist is a qualified, competent and experienced person with skills and knowledge to assess the human health hazards and risks in a potentially hazardous working environment, both inbuilt and natural environment.

Occupational Hygienists who specialize in dealing with asbestos matters are personnel trained in assessing asbestos-related health risks and providing effective advice on the management of the asbestos issue. Occupational hygienists with expertise in asbestos management can advise you on high-risk sites including asbestos in soils, friable asbestos removal, and bonded asbestos made into friable (asbestos fines form). Our consultants are recognised by the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygiene (AIOH) and hold full memberships with the AIOH and are qualified to undertake risk assessments and prepare a Hygienist report before the commencement of asbestos removal of asbestos management including asbestos encapsulation.

How we can help you?

Whether you would like to undertake a simple asbestos testing or like advice on complex asbestos problems including the management of asbestos contamination in buildings, preparation of asbestos registers for commercial buildings, asbestos surveys in a residential or industrial setting or management of asbestos in soils, our team of licenced asbestos assessors and Occupational Hygienists can help you. We can undertake air monitoring for asbestos during the asbestos abatement process. Our consultants are highly skilled with more than 10 years of experience in various industries.

If asbestos is detected during asbestos testing and if you would like to undertake asbestos removal, the asbestos removal companies will usually require a Hygienist Report from an Occupational Hygienist. The report will detail the extent of contamination, the level and severity of risks and provide recommendations on mitigation measures i.e., methods and procedures to decontaminate. We can provide you with a report on a quick turnaround time as we work to the needs of the client. We offer clearance inspections after the completion of asbestos removal and issue an asbestos clearance certificate so that the premises can be re-occupied.

Who undertakes asbestos testing in Sydney?

We undertake asbestos testing of building materials and can issue you with a laboratory report usually within the same day or the next business day. If in doubt, drop a sample of the suspected material and we will get it tested in a NATA accredited laboratory. A report from an Occupational Hygienist is usually endorsed by the local councils, NSW SafeWork and the NSW EPA and is considered comprehensive and meet all required guidelines and code of practices. It is recommended that any asbestos in soils or any friable asbestos situations are managed by Occupational Hygienists as you can rest assured that the advice you receive is highly credible.

What are pre-demolition surveys?

Pre-demolition surveys undertaken by an Occupational Hygienist or a Licenced Asbestos Assessor are highly recommended before the demolition of structures as we intend to identify all asbestos from accessible locations and issue you with a comprehensive report that your demolition contractor can work with. We understand the tight deadlines and work with your team to meet the deadline and at the same time ensure that all workplace health and safety laws related to asbestos are met by our clients.

How we can add value to your project?

Local Councils and the NSW EPA recognises Occupational Hygienists and endorse them to investigate asbestos issues including asbestos assessments in buildings, asbestos in soils assessments, asbestos in fire-damaged house and other sensitive asbestos-related issues. Typically, an Occupational Hygienist will assess the site and issue a Hygienist report before the commencement of any asbestos mitigation works including asbestos removal. Our Occupational Hygienists add value to your project by providing clear and concise recommendations and acting quickly to meet your project deadlines.

Asbestos in soils – How to handle it?

If you require any reports to be submitted to the EPA, all reports shall comply with the requirements of the Contaminated Land Management Act 1997 (CLM Act) and to be prepared or reviewed and approved by an accredited professional such as a Certified Environmental Professional (CEnvP).

Air monitoring for asbestos shall be undertaken during any movement of soils containing asbestos. We undertake Environmental Assessments and issue site contamination reports including preliminary site investigation and detailed site investigation reports.
