Over the past several years, vapour intrusion has gained significant attention among the environmental and construction industry.

Volatile and semi volatile chemicals, when released in soil and groundwater produce toxic vapour, which will be trapped within soil pores. Over the course of time and due to hydrological and hydrogeological dynamics within the soil layers, the vapour rises through soil strata. This may cause onsite or offsite migration of contaminants in vapour state. If building structures are present onsite or offsite, vapour may intrude within the buildings affecting the health of residents and users of the buildings.

Our service includes performing onsite and offsite vapour intrusion investigations for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) including chlorinated solvent and petroleum hydrocarbons contamination and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) such as naphthalene. These investigations include the collection of sub-slab, soil gas, and indoor air samples using both US EPA TO-15 and TO-17 methods with the appropriate laboratory analysis.
