K2 Consulting Group is an experienced occupational hygiene consultancy offering asbestos and hazardous materials consultancy services in Sydney and NSW.
Occupational Hygienists at K2 Consulting Group are accredited and licenced to undertake asbestos surveys and have completed over 400 projects in Sydney since 2019.
Asbestos is a mineral silicate belonging to amphibole and serpentine type mineral forming rocks that were mined and used in various buildings and structures due to their heat resistant, robust, flexible, and waterproofing properties.
When asbestos in this built environment deteriorates asbestos fibres are released, hence posing a health risk.
Visual confirmation of asbestos is a BIG NO. So beware, if your contractor or a friend tries to pose their ‘expertise’ on you – STOP listening to them and get a sample tested, because, hey, the health risks from asbestos outweigh the benefits by far.
Our typical asbestos survey involves visiting the property, careful survey of the condition of the material (bonded or friable asbestos), collection of asbestos samples with appropriate sampling techniques and asbestos analysis at a NATA accredited laboratory. All our asbestos survey in Sydney is undertaken in accordance with the WHS Regulation 2017.
After the completion of the asbestos survey, a detailed asbestos report otherwise called the asbestos Hygienist Report is prepared. K2 Consulting Group can complete a comprehensive asbestos survey and prepare a report before the commencement of demolition (pre-demolition surveys) or renovations. Before demolition, a comprehensive pre-demolition survey must be undertaken to avoid any cross-contamination of asbestos to soils and also to minimize any future financial, health and legal risks from accidental discovery or exposure of asbestos to the residents or contractors.
One must take a preventative and proactive approach when dealing with asbestos. Once the bonded asbestos is damaged and made loose and friable, it is difficult to contain and it travels to other parts of the premises via foot traffic, air movements and material cross-contamination. If you are a person in control of a workplace or premises (PCBU), you should organise for asbestos testing to be undertaken.
The above is only a handful of situations, but there can be many. You can book an inspection with a professional consultant from K2 Consulting Group. Alternatively, send us your samples and we can undertake asbestos testing in Sydney and issue you with a NATA accredited laboratory report.
Asbestos should always be dealt with extreme care and caution and all asbestos works are recommended to be undertaken by licenced professionals. Asbestos surveys should be undertaken by licenced and trained asbestos professionals such as a Licenced Asbestos Assessor or an Occupational Hygienist. Typically, they have years of experience in undertaking asbestos surveys in various building types and asbestos forms. K2 Consulting Group undertakes asbestos surveys in Sydney and has a team of trained asbestos consultants.
K2 Enviro Solutions has a team of Occupational Hygienists who are experienced and trained to undertake asbestos inspections and asbestos assessments in residential and commercial premises.
We offer a lump sum fee for comprehensive asbestos reports while sometimes we may charge you based on the number of samples, as it depends on the nature of your project. The cost of the asbestos testing for a comprehensive report may vary based on the size of the property and the number of rooms and the time it takes to complete the survey and prepare a comprehensive report. Talk to us about your project and we can assist you with a quote.
A person who is in control of the workplace (PCBU) is responsible to have a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) survey completed in the workplace. The HAZMAT surveys are usually undertaken by experienced Occupational Hygienists and the buildings are surveyed for asbestos or ACM, lead (in paint and dust) Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), Ozone Depleting Substances (ODSs) and Synthetic Mineral Fibres (SMF). The HAZMAT surveys record the location of hazardous materials and their condition and the extent of the damage if any. It also captures any recommendations on the management of hazardous materials including any abatement methods. Hazmat surveys also capture the condition of asbestos and hence an asbestos register can be incorporated into a HAZMAT survey.
If you are undertaking any development and if your council has requested you to provide a HAZMAT report or an asbestos survey report, our asbestos consultants can assist you.

Sometimes asbestos fragments are identified in soils from any legacy issues onsite. Asbestos in soil assessment involves various stages and often involves the assessment of soils for the presence or absence of asbestos. When you engage K2 Consulting Group for environmental assessment, we assign this project to an experienced Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP) recognised by the NSW EPA and various Councils in NSW. An initial detailed desktop assessment will be undertaken along with a site visit to assess the extent and condition of asbestos in soils (Preliminary Site Assessment or Preliminary Site Investigation).
A soil sampling program will be drafted, and sampling of soils will be undertaken via drilling or test pit method. The soil samples will be assessed for various parameters and a detailed report will be prepared (Detailed Site Assessment or Detailed Site Investigation).
If the presence of asbestos in soils requires remediation of soils, we will guide you through the process where an asbestos removalist will be engaged to remediate asbestos-containing soils and upon completion of all remediation, a validation report will be prepared and issued to the Client.
